Celebrating 50 years of St John’s
June will be a busy month as we gather on a number of occasions to remember the events that led to the opening of a new church in Horwich and to remember all the people, events and developments which have occurred over the years. We thank God for all those people of vision who were brave enough to start the new venture and those who have steered its progress since. We remember those who have given their time and energy to practical tasks to make the church what it is today.
As we get close to the anniversary date we are seeking stories, memories, photos and items of interest that will bring back the memories. We are grateful for the staff at the Horwich Heritage centre who have been able to provide some information as well as many members of the present congregation who, on delving through lofts and drawers, have found things to contribute.
We hope to have a display of archives, photographs and reminiscences in the week before and during the weekend of the 22nd June.
The events so far planned include
- Thursday 20th June, Food for Thought to share stories while exploring the displayed material and enjoying a meal together.
- Saturday 22nd June, Come for refreshments with old friends while enjoying the displays, playing some games. Craft and charity stalls will also be there.
- Sunday 23rd June 10:30am. Morning worship when the preacher will be Rev Roger Stubbings (Minister here from 1994 – 2001). Then stay for coffee and a celebration cake.
