It was 10th December. Everyone arrived at church ready to be part of a nativity service. The ingenuity of the costumes from simple headgear to full outfits prepared the way for a memorable re-telling of the Christmas story. On arrival you became either a townsperson (Bethlehem resident), a shepherd, a “King” or an angel. As the music struck up, these groups entered the worship space to take up their place. This was to be a re-union of those who remembered and could tell that wonderful story.
The Innkeeper stood before his stable (beautifully constructed by Tim) amazed that his stable, of all places, was central to the amazing story. He invited the groups to tell what they remembered of those days. The townsfolk remembered coming for the census and how busy it was . Then Mary and Joseph were spotted amongst the townsfolk and were invited to tell their story. This prompted the angles to burst into song bringing their eternal message of hope and light. The shepherds told both of their fear and excitement at the strange events they experienced. The Kings told of their journey and they also brought their gifts as they had done before (a signal for all to give their offerings).
Amongst all these stories were readings and carols and prayers of thanksgiving and of intercession to bring hope, comfort and justice to our world. Our time together finished by celebrating Holy Communion in a simple form conducted by Rev. Hilary acting as our chief angel, named Gabrielle.
Then it was time to meet and chat over drinks and mice pies. It seems to have been enjoyed by everyone.
