Photography Competition 2010

The Photography Competition was a huge success with nearly 150 images submitted for display and judging. The competition was judged by local photographer Mark Power, who is President of the Bolton Digital Photographic Society.

The winning prize in the under 16’s went to Sam Hodgkinson with a superb floral image entitled “Blowing in the Wind”. Sam also won the “popular vote” for the under 16’s section. Second and third places went to Oliver and April Horner respectively. Top prize in the adult section went to a portrait of a young girl “The Shape of Things to Come” by Judith Baxter. A very close second went to “Cycle Racing” by Norman Stewart and third place went to a nature shot of a dew-soaked spider’s web entitled “Perfect Symmetry” by Christine Penketh. The winner of the “popular vote” for best picture was Reginald New with a beautiful sunset landscape entitled “The Sunset And…”.

There was a good turnout on Saturday 25 September to view the display, enjoy refreshments and hear the results.

It seems that this competition succeeded in its aim of helping us to see more clearly the enormous variety of beauty in the world around us that we encounter every day.
