Saturday night was ‘Music Night’ on 6th September 2008 at St John’s Church, Horwich. Graham Smith, Paul Curtis, Matthew Howard-Norman and eleven year old Ben Scrivener gave an very enjoyable evening of music ranging from Lancashire folk songs to music from the musicals and great composers. Graham started the evening in fine style with his own brand of Lancashire humour and musical talent including singing and playing the guitar.

Young Ben surprised us all with his excellent performance on the euphonium. He played with confidence for his early years and selected a programme to please everyone.

Matthew was an excellent teenage ambassador giving a very moving rendition of ‘This is the moment’ from Jeckyll and Hyde accompanied by June Howard-Norman on the piano and then changed tempo playing Scott Joplin’s ‘Entertainer’ on the piano. Matthew closed his programme accompanying himself on the piano as he sang ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ by Elton John.

Paul gave an impressive performance on flute playing a medley of well loved music including pieces by George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart and John Williams.

The evening concluded with Paul and Graham playing several numbers together, with ‘Now is the hour’ as their finale. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed and we hope that we will ‘meet again’ in 2009 with another ‘Saturday Night is Music Night’.

St John’s really has got Talent!
