“All in” Nativity
Sunday worship on 10th December last year was a nativity with a difference. The Christmas story was presented as a remembrance of the wonderful events of that time long ago. It was told through the eyes of shepherds, kings, angels and, of course, Mary and Joseph. Everyone who came belonged to a group representing one of the character groups in the story, so everyone was involved (though not expected to do any acting!). You can find out more about the nativity here.
Hyning Quiet Day
Several church members will soon be attending the quiet day at Hyning (The Monastery of Our Lady of Hyning), This has become a regular annual event which gives time for quiet reflection. It will be led by our own minister, Rev Hilary Howarth.
Winter Warmer
At the beginning of October our regular “Cup and Natter” Wednesday mornings morphed into our “Winter Warmer” sessions as they did last year. These sessions offer a warm space for anyone who is either finding it hard to keep their house warm with the increasing fuel prices or who feels in need of some company during the colder and darker times of the year. We have the usual tea, coffee, toast, teacakes etc but the time is extended into early afternoon and hot soup and bread rolls provide a nourishing lunch.
Lent Group meetings
During Lent this year the Fellowship Group did not meet but instead we held a series of meetings to concentrate on the themes of Lent. The course was one produced for use in the Methodist Church in 2022 and was called “Woven”. It highlighted the way in which our lives and the work of God are woven together so that we can see and experience God in our everyday lives. About 25 people attended the meetings which is almost half our usual Sunday congregation. Overall it was thought to be a very valuable part of our personal Easter preparations.
