Mothering Sunday and the approach to Easter were linked together in this session of Messy Church. Jim took as the core idea the statement by Jesus that God loves us just as a hen loves her chicks by sheltering them under her wing. So the activities included making a Mothers Day card and making paper flowers. Chocolate nests were made which combined the idea of Easter chocolate with that of the chick’s nest. There was also a puzzle to learn how chocolate is made and the importance of Free Trade chcolate. It inlved putting pictures of the origin and production of chocolate in the correct sequence. Then all together we created a giant nest from balls of string-like tape, throwing the balls to each other and winding them round the chairs. Just before worship we were treated to a puppet show to learn more about Free Trade chocolate. The worship centred again on the way we are loved by God and the care that we receive from those close to us, particularly Mothers.
The session was well attended and everyone enjoyed a hearty meal of spaghetti bolognaise with vegetables followed by a choice of deserts including birthday cake!
